Yesterday I started work on an assignment to photograph the town of Woolwich to the East of London on the banks of the River Thames. Famous as a crossing point of the river this dusk image of the ferry with the City of London in the background sets the scene.

Butzi Porsche died last week. I had the pleasure of photographing him twice at his Home and the Porsche Design studio in Zell-Am-See in Austria in the 1980's. He was a quiet man but a true designer producing a wide range of interesting products, from watches to his most well known design the Porsche 911 coupe. In the photograph I have merged an image of one of the first 911's with a portrait of the great man. His designs will live on.

I was pleased to be able to photograph Peter Heydon's wonderful 1935 Lincoln Le Baron Cpupe while it resided in Europe to participate in various Auto show's. The elegant Coupe had all the glamour of the jazz age with a mighty V12 under the bonnrt(hood) providing speed and a wonderful sound while speeding down English country lanes in Suffolk.

I had an e mail from a Comsat Angel fan last year asking if I could buy a print of the photograph I took for the cover of the " Waiting for a Miracle" debut album cover. I remember shooting the image on a deserted motorway at night but as with many images from that era the record company never returned transparencies or they were lost in my files. Well while looking for other old and interesting photographs this image showed up which was very close the the published cover shot. I even found a group image of the Indie band shot with their native Sheffield in the background. Perhaps the fan will try me again for a print, but they will now be filed in my archive!

Walking on Margate beach towards the Turner Contemporary art gallery I happened upon this vast metal sculpture looking like a work by an artist such as Sir Anthony Caro,a fitting work of art to front the new gallery in the seaside town. I have just returned from a photo-shoot in Germany with the new Porsche 911. The assignment was to produce a great set of images despite what ever! The weather produced rain,snow,ice and bright sunshine. The car preformed well on the trip and we were able to test the car to the full over 900miles of contrasting twisty country roads,the Nurburgring race track and Autobahn's. The legend continues!

First single seat winner of the 1923 Indy 500 Miller 122. This stunning restoration will be featured in Octane magazine soon. I photographed the car at Michigan International Speedway back in July. The car was built with watchmakers precision and has wonderful proportions just a perfect race car. Photographing the car took quite a time as there were so many great detais plus action photography!

We were the first guests in the restored Mizpah hotel in the desert town of Tonopah Nevada. Scott at the bar of the historic hotel built in 1907 in what was a boom town,the hotel had an elevator and temperature controled water system cutting edge back then. It rained at the Chelsea Auto Legends auto show in London yesterday but we all had a good time in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The Voisin C20 driving along the highway at Northville Michigan on route to the Concours d'Elegance of America at st John's. The plume of smoke from the rear is quite normal due to the sleeve valve V12 engine used in this French Classic to produce a smooth silent automobile!

Air spotters photographing Spitfire World War II while it was giving a display at Manston Airport yesterday. I was sitting watching the local air show when i noticed all the keen photograqphers following every twist and turn of the classic war bird. A visit to the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania

On a recent road trip story to the Baltic States,one of the points of interest to me was the ' Hill Of Crosses" close to the town of Siauliai in Lithuania. Over 100,000 crosses have ben counted on the hill including one a gift from Pope John II. The hill doesn't disappoint, the shear impact of the place is a visual feast as a photographer. My visit was at noon on a hot bright day not ideal for moody lighting effects but the sculpture of the hill plus the lone cyclist helped with producing an interesting result.

Roots mororing in the Morgan Threewheeler, powered by an American V Twin 1910cc motor coupled to a Mazda 5 speed gearbox which features reverse gear (The 3 Wheeler is classed as a Motorcycle)! A taste of 1930's motoring was great, we rumbled down the country lanes around Malvern. The car has no weather protection but that's the point it's great fun motoring.

We are workiing on a travel story for a UK publication of a road trip in Ireland of the Ring of Kerry. I decided to use my Austin Healey 3000. We haven't put the hood up through rain and shine in 659 miles from Margate East of England in the UK to Dingle the furthest town West in Europe. It's a wonderful trip!

I produced this image of the Audi RT18 and A1 supermini for a UK Sunday Newspaper as part of their coverage of the 79th classic 24 hour endurance race weekend. Can No3 was destroyed in a massive crash early in the race piloted by Alan McNish who was unhurt. Audi No1 car also crashed out during the night which left RT18 No2 to fend of a massive challenge from three Purgeot 908HDi's. Racing down to the wire just a few seconds after 24 hours!

I took a 400 mile blast in Audi's new RS3 in the Welsh Martches. This 5 door rocketship has 340ps and can reach the national speed limit to two lane roads in the UK in 4.6 seconds using a fine 7 speed gearbox and quattro drive line. I had a fine time and managed a ceditable 31 mpg on the outing!

On a visit to the Royal Horticultural Society garden at Wisley in Surrey this image of the giant relatives of the onion look almost like a prehistoric forest in front of the tropical glasshouse. The image worth the wait for the sun to exit from behind a grey cloud!

Painted on the site of an old Banksy 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' This new giant graffiti art I spotted on a cycle ride around my Camden in London. The subject is a GWR steam locomotive and various circus and musical characters. It looked great in the afternoon sun!

Roaring Twenties, I had a great day out in Oxford wit a 1925 Morris Cowley and 1927 Ford Model T sedan.

Not somthing I do every day,driving around the city of dreaming spires Oxford in cars that are as old as my father inlaw. How thing have changed but there is a definate charm driving 1920's automobiles if you can work out which pedal does what!

David E Davis Jr. died last weekend. Mr Davis was a good friend and wonderful automotive magazine editor. He has shaped many of the best publications in the USA. I worked with him since 1982 when I was chosen to photograph the first of many great drives. DED Jr. was a great travel conpanion and story teller. His death is a great loss.

I shot this image from a chase car we were using to take a road trip to the Southern USA in the ultimate German sports car the Porsche 911 Turbo. The temperature was - 10F as the sun rose over the trees East of the interstate,what a great days drive followed!

In 1899 the Le Jamais Contente electric car broke the World speed record at 105 kph / 60mph on a public road in France. I was delighted to photograph this working replica on a runway at Le Bourget airport near Paris for a stoty in an American magazine.

I had the chance to not only photograph the new Lancia Stratos with a group of the original Lancia Stratos cars for a cover story for Octane Magazine in the UK. The shoot looks fantastic despite strong winds and a threat of rain! Great cars.

While editing a submission to one of my picture libraries I came across this image of the 1886 Benz (repilca) I shot in 1996 to celebrate 100 years of the Automobile. It was fun to produce an image that looked if it had been shot when the car was new.

Returning from photo shoot in West London I came upon the end of the giant student demo in London 10th November against the governments plan to increase university tuition fees. Mr nasty as far as the students are concerned is deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, who has U turned on his pre election pledge not to increase fees!!!!!! Working recently on a travel story road trip along HWY 89 & 49 in California I was greeted by this fantastic dawn view over Lake Tahoe. The light quality just grew and grew producing orange,purple and blue a visual treat which I hope the image reflects.

Autunm is a time when I am busy shooting exotic cars before the winter sets in and they cover the roads with salt in the UK. This rare Bugatti EB110 SS is a wonderful super car and we were able to put it through its paces on the quiet country roads of Hampshire UK.
